The Double Helix and Discovery of DNA - What Genes and the Genome Mean to Our Fu

The unlocking of what makes living species tick and the discovery of the Double Helix and DNA changes everything. It means in the future genetic diseases will be no more, it means healthier and happier lives and more abundance.

Of course, we must also realize the ethical issues with all of this as well, warns James Watson the scientist who with his associate made the discovery. Oh that leads me to recommending James Watson's auto biography:

"A Passion for DNA - Genes, Genomes and Society" by James D. Watson - 2000.

This autobiography takes a slow pace and yet it helps us understand the man who with the help of his friend discovered the DNA code that makes humans and everything else what it is. This discovery in only 25 years has changed everything for the bio-sciences.

James Watson grew up in a modest Chicago Home with values and hard work ethic and perhaps this is one of his greatest attributes that helped him to achieve all he did. He explains how they came to the revelation of the Double Helix and how there were skeptics in the beginning.

Later in the book he discusses how his discovery can cure cancer and how we must remain ethical in our uses of this knowledge and comments on the ethics of the science community when working with genetics and DNA research. Interestingly enough, he seemed to call that before the huge DNA scandals in Science.

Watson explains the Genome Project and its importance and hope for the future, so I hope you will read this book if you are indeed interested in this subject. I recommend it.
